Newsletter: Why do you matter?

“OMG — could anything else go wrong? I can’t take it anymore! I GIVE UP!”

Know that feeling? When life keeps piling on problems one on top of another? Like the saying goes – when it rains, it pours!

After all, 2020 feels like that for most of us.

The first really not-fun lockdown was in March, then the second even-less-fun lockdown this November. The financial and social insecurity, the concern over our health and the health of our loved ones is excruciating.

But still, if we look at the big picture, the majority of the time the problem is not the problem. The problem is the overwhelming feeling of having too many problems that we do not know where to focus and what to tackle first. Thus, we are left feeling powerless.

But, are we really powerless?

For starters, we need to accept that life happens for us and not TO us.

During difficult times leaders are born. And leaders grow by optimizing their strengths to such a degree that their weaknesses tend to be irrelevant.

With that in mind, we created our webinar series on relationships, constructive communication, feedback and active listening because, during these difficult times, we can all get through them easier, by having honest relationship with ourselves and authentic relationships with our loved ones

Now, more than ever, Cavafy’s words have never been more poignant…

“…keep Ithaka always in your mind

your arrival there is your destiny·

But don’t rush the journey at all

it better lasts for many years,

and then when you’re old to stay on the island,

wealthy with all you’ve gained on the way

without expecting Ithaka to make you rich.

Ithaka gave you the beautiful journey.

without her you wouldn’t have set out

there’s nothing else to give you anymore.

And if you find her poor, Ithaka hasn’t fooled you.

now that you became wise with so much experience

you should have already understood what Ithakas mean..”

What is our journey through life? What is the meaning of an Ithaka to us? What is our destination? And most importantly are we aware of its purpose?

The road is long, full of adventure and knowledge.  Yet, the baggage that we carry seems to be with us, buried in our soul.  So, what do we do to take care of our soul?

Every day and every given hour, we get the chance to do things that can make us feel happy and grateful. We have a choice and it’s ours to make!

Even simple things, like how we sit in our chair so that our back does not hurt at the end of a long day, or when we decide to turn off our computers to have some quality time off work (yeah! We know this is pretty difficult when working from home).

Today, right at this moment, let go of what no longer serves you, for example, any guilt, negative thoughts, and focus on doing something really good for yourself. Remember it is as much about the heart, the body, the spirit as it is about the mind.

If your tank is empty, fill it up and give back! Make a difference for someone else! The choice is yours!
