“What sets apart high‐performance teams is their degree of commitment, particularly how deeply committed the members are to one another.”
Katzenbach & Smith, The Wisdom of Teams
The purpose of team coaching is to provide training and practical experience in the techniques and skills of a Collaborative Approach to Coaching and Leadership. It is oriented toward participation and practical experience rather than lecture. You will have extensive opportunities to coach and to receive feedback on your coaching.
Every team is built on a system of relationships and interacting influences, all of which affect the performance of both the individuals and the team as a whole. In this innovative workshop, you will be provided with the tools and powerful structures to coach a team to optimal productivity and effectiveness.
Team coaching is delivered in a series of structured discussions and exercises, in a workshop setting with a pair of trained facilitators. Our facilitators work with the unique system that your team creates and focus on the interrelationship between individuals and the environment and actions they co‐create. This can include the presence of a common vision, and the levels of inclusion, optimism, belonging, trust and respect.
Our facilitators will create the perfect environment to elicit dialogue and inquiry into the dynamics of the team. During this collaborative process, the team is invited to openly explore their definitions and place within the team. The objective is to help the team align and reach a common goal. The facilitator will reveal spoken and unspoken meaning through the team’s dialogue, and there will be structured exercises to make sure that everyone’s voice is heard.
Your team will begin with an initial foundation session with the team coaches. Typically, this lasts between 1‐2 days, and provides you with a conceptual framework for understanding the dynamics of your team. We also offer the highly effective Team Diagnostic Assessment™ (TDA), used by high performance teams to boost results, accomplish tasks and reach goals. The TDA is based on research that shows the most successful teams have the means in place to take productive action and to build effective relationships that motivate and sustain that action. Correspondingly, the Team Diagnostic model is built on two fundamental axes; factors that optimize productivity and factors that promote positivity and neutralize negativity. You and your team will leave with new awareness, tools, and skills that you can apply immediately.
This course will help you:
- Develop a team contract for how the team will work together (including values and behavioral norms)
- Clearly define the team mission and set of measurable team goals
- Formulate concrete action plans
- Clarify roles and responsibilities
- Encourage a greater willingness to collaborate
- Establish accountability
- Clearly agree rules for decision‐making
- Improve the team’s ability to engage in creative disagreement for the sake of team goals
Typically, team coaches work with a team face-to-face for a series of monthly sessions for between 6 to 12 months depending on the needs and agreement with the organization. The sessions are designed to follow up accountabilities agreed on during the initial meeting, as well as provide further skill development and learning for the team. These can be incorporated into regular, monthly business meetings between the team. Ultimately, we equip your team with skills and insight that effectively continues the work without the team coaches.
After 6 months, a second TDA can be undertaken to measure change over time.
